An interview with Bashy Austerlitz, Software Developer at Achieve Behavioral Health

Tell us a little bit about your background and your life.

I am 23 years old, married, with a baby. 

 

Where do you live?

I live in Spring Valley, NY.

 

What field of technology do you work in?

 I am a Software Developer.

 

What got you interested in technology?

I always wanted to do something intriguing, and technology sounded about right.

 

Did you attend a college or study program?

No. I took an online course.

 

In what way has your degree/study helped you in your life?

I have been able to find a high-paying position with flexible hours doing what I love.

 

Where do you work?

Currently, I work for Achieve Behavioral Health – I run the EMR development. 

In the past, I worked for Cavalry Associates as a Lead Software Developer planning, designing, implementing and troubleshooting custom desktop and web applications, as well as delegating to team members and ensuring proper workflow. 

I also worked for EGL USA Gemological Labs as a Software Manager updating bugs in the software, implementing custom features and expanding their existing database.

 

Describe a day in your life.

I meet with the doctors to discuss further development of the system. I deal with tickets, resolving errors, updating, and creating new functionalities.

 

What challenges did you face when you first entered the tech world?

Everyone was looking for experience. 

 

What advice & tips would you offer for those entering the tech field?

If you love it, go for it. It can be a very satisfying career.
